Reminiscent of our favourite enemies-to-lovers fan fictions and stories, Melissa and Aidan were a slow burn that manifested into what Melissa can only describe as, "An amazing friendship that made me realise I didn’t want a life without him. I knew I was in love, he was the one."
How did you meet?
I didn’t really like Aidan when I met him - it was more like annoyance at first sight, he was always teasing me about anything and everything. And each time, I took the bait! It was so infuriating! I would constantly complain about him to my friends, but we eventually formed an amazing friendship and he pursued me till he made his way out of the friend zone!
When did you get engaged? How was the proposal?
We were officially together for a year before he had plotted a surprise proposal one raining morning on North Burleigh Hill. All my childhood besties and their babies met me at the bottom and walked me up the hill where he was waiting. From the top of the lookout I could see ‘will you marry me?’ written in the sand.
Easiest yes I have EVER said!
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle was the highlight for me - we were so emotional and you could feel all the love, anticipation, and support in the room from all of our loved ones. I will never forget that moment.
What was the wedding theme and the inspiration behind it?
We went for a romantic-rustic-meets-modern vibe. Our venue was an old mill filled with wine barrels and wrought iron finishes so I spent our engagement collecting décor pieces that would tie everything together. My dress was classic with pearl accessories, my flowers were whimsical spring pastels, and I collected 80+ spice jars, wine bottles and antique bud vases to decorate the tables. I think all of the DIYing was worth it because it felt so personal to me.
Bridesmaids: Who helped celebrate your big day?
My childhood bestie Wesli, my sister Kimberly, and my cousin Emily - the BEST bridal squad a bride could ask for. It was important for me for them to feel comfortable and look beautiful in their dresses. I wanted something that suited each of their body shapes so I got them to pick their own dress style and colour from Billy J Boutique.
Why did you choose Maison De Femmes?
I had picked the Sabine + collar for my wedding. I was lucky enough that the Instagram algorithm worked in my favour and I came across your site earlier this year! I fell in MAD love with the Sabine! They were EXACTLY what I was looking for and they were the perfect compliment to my classic dress. The collar reminded me of flower petals and I loved the customisable element of being able to wear the piece different ways.
