After his family tried to play cupid for months, Mitch and Anna-Lena's paths finally crossed. Anna-Lena recalls, "I was very reluctant at first, but when Mitch came home to Australia for a surprise visit, we coincidentally met at his sister's house, and the second we locked eyes, I knew he was the one".
After six months of long distance, "Mitch came back to Australia to visit me for a month in February 2020; it just so happened that he got stuck here (thank you, Covid)", she says. Their relationship went from long-distance to being stuck together 24/7, but Anna-Lena shares, "The fact that we were still very crazy for each other after months of Iso confirmed what we already felt - we were meant to be".
How did Mitch propose to you?
We started the trip at Lago di Braies in the Dolomites of Italy, one of my favourite places of all time. When we went to the lake during sunrise, Mitch started telling me how much he loves me and how much I mean to him, which wasn’t surprising because he’d often do that when we were in beautiful places together. The only thing that was different - Mitch was very teary and shaking. Plus, I spotted a photographer taking photos of us. When I finally put 1 and 2 together, he was already on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the most magical moment of my life and so incredibly special.
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
The moment Mitch turned around and we locked eyes as I was walking down the aisle. It was pure magic.
What was your wedding inspiration and theme?
Romantic vintage.
Who did you want by your side in your wedding party?
My maid of honour, Feli, has been my best friend and rock since we were 10. I had four bridesmaids. Letaetia, who is the reason we had this wedding. We wouldn't be here today if she hadn't been so pushy about making me a permanent family member and setting me up with her cousin! Steph, my beautiful sister-in-law. Jess, my first bestie when I moved to Brisbane and my soul sister. And Celina, one of my childhood besties.
What jewellery did you choose for your special day?
I wore the Maison de Femme Olivia Pearl Earrings. The second I saw them, I was obsessed! They're timeless and elegant but also have a modern touch aren't from all the "boring" traditional bridal jewellery.
What do you wish you could change about your wedding day?
Nothing, it was beyond anything I ever dreamed of. But I will say, with 38 degrees, it was a lot hotter than the 26-degree historic weather for our wedding day. So, if I could change the weather, I would haha!
Wishing you a lifetime of adventure and happiness, Anna-Lena and Mitchell!
